The proposed Beacon AI/VoltaGrid data center is a high-profile, multi-million-dollar project planned for a 120-hectare parcel in the Spruce Lake Industrial Park in Lorneville, Saint John, New Brunswick. The facility is expected to represent a total investment of up to $2 billion and includes an on-site 190 MW natural gas-fired power generator assembled by VoltaGrid, which is designed to supply a significant portion of its massive power needs.

While proponents highlight the economic benefits of over 1,300 construction jobs and 210 permanent operational jobs, the project has faced significant opposition from local residents, primarily concerning the environmental impact on water usage from Spruce Lake and air emissions from the power plant. The development is still pending a final Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval, with the companies aiming for the site to be operational by early 2028.
