The Big Red Apple Innovation Corridor, a proposed $300 million mixed-use development that included a controversial data center component, was effectively canceled in Cornelia in December 2025. This "death by silence" occurred amidst fierce local opposition regarding traffic, school capacity, and a clerical error in the city's legal advertisements. While early filings by the developer, Cook Communities, reserved space for a data center, Cornelia city officials later clarified that such a facility was not currently permitted under local ordinances and the city lacked the infrastructure to support it.
